How to Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit
The Celsius-to-Fahrenheit formula explained with familiar temperature examples and a quick way to check your answer.
The formula
To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 and then add 32. Written as a formula: ยฐF = (ยฐC ร 9/5) + 32.
Useful reference points
0ยฐC is 32ยฐF, which is the freezing point of water under standard conditions. 100ยฐC is 212ยฐF, the boiling point of water under standard atmospheric pressure. These two points are useful for checking whether your calculation makes sense.
A simple example
For 25ยฐC, multiply 25 by 9/5 to get 45, then add 32. The result is 77ยฐF. This is a common room-temperature reference and a good mental check for the formula.
Going the other way
For Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32 first and then multiply by 5/9. Keeping the two formulas separate helps avoid the common mistake of adding or subtracting 32 at the wrong stage.
